Thank God It's Friday
Feeling exhausted at the end of a workweek? You’re not alone, but what to do…
Thank God It’s Friday in New York was the first time I ate potato wedges with some obscure sauce accompanied by a beer. We’re talking mid 90’s of the last century. Back in those days, it being Friday gave us a sigh of relief. One that I also recognised, working as a CPA for an international audit firm.
But let’s head back to the year 2021. Nothing really changed did it? I still hear my friends and colleagues complaining about their workload. I still see them longing for the weekend, the holidays or other brakes from everyday life. Just to catch their breath so they can move on, back to work and/or taking care of the kids and other things on our to do list.
More importantly however is why are we unable to fence off that endless of depletion of energy? Is it work demands, children, social engagements, Covid or all of the above? My observation, none of the above. We just hold our breaths too long and forget to take short brakes and use those to recharge. Besides, don’t expect much of the weekends as those are packed with running errands anyways.
So what then? According to research by the University of Exeter, a good 120 minutes a week being surrounded by nature benefits your health. It has been shown to ward off feelings of exhaustion and boost your energy levels. That is why I prefer outdoor coaching with my clients. Not necessarily in a 10,000 acre forest but just in your park next door. Here in Leiden or wherever you are.
To come to a conclusion, why don’t you get out a bit more often, away from your desk at the office or your “work closet” at home. By the time the weekend is there, you will have all the energy in the world to do more fun things. And if you are interested in a chat, do reach out or check my offer to you. I am always interested in hearing new stories.
